Twin Peaks Revival

Ben Horne: [holding a room key] Room 315. Wait a minute. I think that was the room where Agent Cooper was shot.
Beverly Page: Who's Agent Cooper?
Ben Horne: FBI. He was here, I don't know, maybe 25 years ago investigating the murder of Laura Palmer.
Beverly Page: Who's Laura Palmer?
Ben Horne: Oh, that, my dear, is a long story.

Twin Peaks Revival is over and I miss it like like hell. Sure I'm satisfied with what I saw because I didn't expect this kind of show to bring us all the answers and give us a good-bye kiss. I knew the end would inspire more questions and that's exactly what happened. You can read my previous post if you haven't yet. And I'll try not to spoil too much (is that even possible?).

As I mentioned in the beginning the protagonist, Dale Cooper, was stuck in another dimension and when he got out he spent a lot of time as a brain damaged person, who didn't remember anything. Some liked this version named Dougie, some didn't. I found it very odd that the other characters didn't seem to perceive that Dougie was clearly retarded but I suppose one can't be surprised when Lynch's character behave weird. That's his trademark, right? I enjoyed his unintentional jokes but with each episode I longed more and more for the good old Dale Cooper with brilliant brain and unshakable moral compass. Something's telling me that was exactly David Lynch's goal and he really did a good job with giving us one great and unexpected experience after another and yet he left us asking for more. Special agent Dale Cooper did come back and it felt like home.
However, that was not the only poignant moment in the revival. Catherine Coulson, the actress playing the one-of-a-kind log lady, died during the shooting of the revival but not before she said goodbye to us and hearing the very frail old lady saying she was dying was emotional.
The happier moments included Big Ed and Norma, the high school sweethearts, finally finding happiness together after forty years for each other. Who wouldn't root for these two?
But what's with Ed's one-eyed and curtain obsessed wife, your asking? Nadine seems to find her soulmate in doctor Jacoby, who has grown even more eccentric with age and he was no square to begin with. Now he has his own amateur radio station and he broadcasts the alternative drivel we see everyday nowadays.
I could use more Audrey, guys. It was such a big deal, when she finally appeared in the revival but she should have had more screen-time. I'm a bit disappointed with her story, though. I don't think I'm the only one who loved Audrey in the old seasons and the fact her life today is a pure tragedy makes me real sad. And what is her life like anyway? That's unclear.
Gordon Cole and Albert Rosenfield, the unbeatable FBI team, provided us not only with the necessary exposition but also quotes like this:
/after attack, when Gordon hesitated to shoot back/
Albert Rosenfield: You okay, Gordon?
Gordon Cole: [holding his revolver] I COULDN'T DO IT, ALBERT. I COULDN'T DO IT.
Albert Rosefield: You've gone soft in your old age.
Gordon Cole: WHAT?
Albert Rosenfield: I said, you've gone soft in your old age.
Gordon Cole: NOT WHERE IT COUNTS, BUDDY.
I didn't not expect Lucy and Andy playing a role in the supernatural events because in the old seasons they are an integral part of the cozy side of Twin Peaks. This division still exists even in the third season but the mystical forces have already found their way in. Even Lucy and Andy took part in the serious business but it was no jumping the shark at all.
I will share a few stray thoughts about the small characters too. I liked that Donna's sister Gretchen (?) came back for a few scenes. It was a nice touch. I don't see why Donna didn't. I'm too lazy to google what the reason was:-) Oh, and look! There's Vanessa Abrams from Gossip Girl (now I feel like watching Gossip Girl again)! I guess she got bored with Upper East side then.
But there are questions. Of course there are. Like for example: did David Lynch change the whole premise of the show at the end of the revival? Did agent Cooper succeed in his two-birds-with-one-stone plan? What's with the woodmen's poem? And who the hell is Billy?
Twin Peaks Revival is like nothing you can see on television today. The creators usually shoot TV series/films that have elements of many genres, though carefully balanced, so that they appeal to as many viewers as possible. It's understandable but it gets boring. David Lynch, however, has no problem with giving us an entire episode dedicated to surreal business out of nowhere and with next to no lines in those 45 minutes. And the next one can be set in the reality and have a completely different feel to it. Forget the universal popularity! Here have some Twin Peaks. You might be puzzled at the drivel most of the time but it surely is mesmerizing.
PS: Did the girl get her rash checked?

Twin Peaks Revival skončil iba pred dvomi týždňami a už teraz mi chýba.
No to nebol jediný intenzívny moment novej série.
Veď kto by týmto dvoch nedržal palce?
Bolo to milé. A aha! Vanessa Abrams z Gossip Girl!
Ako napríklad: to naozaj zmenil David Lynch premisu celého seriálu? Podarilo sa agentovi Cooperovi zabiť dve muchy jednou ranou? A čo tá drevorubačská básnička?

PS: A tá dievčina išla už s tou vyrážkou ku kožnej?
