Bonnie and Clyde (1967)

I've been planning to watch Bonnie and Clyde ever since I came across pictures of Faye Dunaway. After having watched the film I can confirm that she really is the best asset of a movie that probably isn't that much realistic (there's no proof the real Bonnie ever shot or tried to shoot anyone herself) nor the best acted movie in the world.
I know little about the story of Bonnie and Clyde, I admit that without upfront, however, a lot about is still a general mystery. For example: what the hell were they thinking? They say that Bonnie was a bored with her life of a waitress and living with her mother. Clyde had long been a small criminal (had done a short time in prison even) and he probably felt flattered when she showed interest in him. Did they have a deathwish? Did they feel like people without future who just wanted to have their last hurrah before they go out in a big style? Who knows.

Nevermind, let's go back to the film. The characters seem to have as much regards for their future and their lives as the real Bonnie and Clyde probably had. However, they are prettier:-) No surprise there, you'd say but these were 60's and in those times they used to pair pretty young actresses with ugly old (albeit famous) men and pretend they have a chemistry. Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty are both the same age and equally attractive. It's like the filmmakers finally realized that even women want to look at eye-candies just as much as men do. What's more Faye Dunaway's costumes in the film are to die for. She looks nothing short of terrific in every single scene.

I had mixed feeling while watching the film because the acting was a bit odd. Moreover, their motivations were more said than shown. They clearly suffered from Robin Hood complex and wanted to take the justice in their own hands. In 30's there were many people who lost their homes when they got into financial problems and banks took them.
Nevertheless, Bonnie and Clyde had their fair share of fun but only after they had learned the art of robbery. In the beginning they truly were like prettier versions of Laurel and Hardy - only extreme luck saved them from the consequences because they really weren't very good at what they were doing.
Even though the film feels dated in both good and bad ways, there's one element that speaks to today's audience. It's creepy and eerie how obsessed Bonnie and Clyde seemed to be by taking pictures of themselves and their conquests and adventures. Not that many things changed since 30's.

O príbehu Bonnie a Clydea toho viem málo, to priznávam otvorene, no mnoho je stále záhadou. Napríklad: Čo dočerta ich to napadlo? Kto vie.
No nič, poďme teda naspäť k filmu.

No Bonnie a Clyde mali o zábavu postarané.
